I got a message the other day, and when I saw who it was from, well golly, I nearly keeled over in surprise. It was from Hope Estheim himself! I remember when Elida used to be classmates with him in middle school. It's hard to forget the names of the people who were involved in the catastrophe.
Anyway, he said he was really interested in my report about the gates, and wanted to know if I'd be willing in joining his team. Team Alpha. Wow. With them, I'd have all the resources I need to continue my research.

Ever since I was little, I had moved all over Cocoon because of dad’s work. There were unfamiliar places, and unfamiliar faces.

Nobody knew me. Even if I lied saying, this and that happened in the last city, nobody would be able to figure it out. So, it was better to talk about things that made everyone smile and be happy. Even if they weren’t true, there was no doubt that this was better.

no j/k this memory is hilarious for the timefuckery in it. hope finds a scene on the oracle drive of serah, 400 something years in the future, yelling at him about his stupid robots. then hope thinks HEY, MAYBE DESIGNING A HYPER-INTELLIGENT AI TO TAKE THE PLACE OF THE DEMIGODS THAT TYRANNICALLY RAN OUR SOCIETY IN A SCI-FI SETTING ISN'T THE BEST IDEA.

A NOTE ABOUT MEMORIES FROM YASCHAS MASSIF 10AF AND 1XAF: technically the 1XAF timeline is the true one, so memories from 10AF are going to be kkkkind of weird and shaky? And not technically accurate? But due to ssspoilers, they'll still be part of Alyssa's registry.

That having been said, this is an interesting memory for Alyssa. She doesn't say a lot, but she does plenty of thinking. The memory involves recognition of Lightning and Caius through the Oracle Drive, as well as the revelation that her existence may not be part of this timeline. Caius seems familiar in an unpleasant, foreboding way. Hope expresses the possibility of traveling back into the past to change the future instead of traveling forward, which is what Serah and Noel have been up to it by this point.

The Oracle Drive shows a future where Cocoon is supported on a pillar of crystal; but then, as the prophecy is restored, it also shows a future where the crystal pillar is broken and Cocoon crashes into Gran Pulse and is destroyed, killing millions in the process. Even though it's supposed to happen a few centuries from this time, it's still imminent danger for the people of this world.

The decision is made that Serah and Noel will travel towards the future in order to find the catalyst for Cocoon's fall and stop it; and Hope and Alyssa will start their research towards saving it in the present time.

Hope is optimistic, and it's the happiest Alyssa's seen him, but... she knows that his plans will cause trouble for her--even if they're all trying to save their home.
